Prospective & Transfer Students

¡Hola!/Olá! On behalf of the Latinx Law Students Association (LaLSA), we encourage you to apply to NYU School of Law. NYU is a unique place to pursue your legal career and we think you would be making a fantastic decision by applying.

If you are in the application process and are interested in hearing from NYU LaLSA, please fill out this form here!

While much of what LaLSA does is for current NYU Law students, we also provide guidance for Latinx prospective students as they navigate the application process. As an organization, our goal is to foster community for Latinx students at NYU Law —which starts with working to increase Latinx admissions to the law school. We know how challenging the application process can be, especially for those of us who have had limited to no exposure to the legal profession. We have linked some NYU offerings that we want to highlight as you begin the application process.

Applying to law school can be an intimidating task, but we urge you to apply to every school that sparks your interest, regardless of how you perceive your GPA, LSAT score, or other qualifications. Whatever you may need — advice, resources, encouragement in relation to the application process — please reach out to us. We are committed to encouraging Latinx students to attend law school and enter the legal profession, regardless of if they ultimately end up at NYU.

We hope that you consider applying to NYU Law. If you have any questions about NYU Law, the LaLSA community, or anything regarding the law school application process, please contact the Admissions chairs of our executive board or reach out to us at nyu.law.lalsa@gmail.com. If you are a transfer student, please contact our Transfer Representative. To best help you and connect you to a current student with relevant experience, please include information, if possible, about any scholarships, areas of study, or opportunities at NYU you're interested in. If you feel it's relevant to the support you want, you may also include if you're first generation, an international student, coming directly from undergrad, or LGBTQIA+.

To that end, you’ll find links to sample personal and diversity statements, as well as sample NYU named scholarship essays and letters of continued interest. We hope that these samples from LaLSA members will be helpful to you as you start crafting your own materials, especially if you’re the first in your family to apply to law school or if you’re unsure of where to start. Please keep in mind that these are just collected samples; there is not a “correct” way to write one of these statements! In addition to the samples linked here, there are a few additional examples available upon request.
